Sejal is a student of molecular biology and global health at Yale who aspires to a career as a physician leader and medical entrepreneur at the vanguard of health innovation. Galvanized by the oppression and discrimination she witnessed against women and girls worldwide, Sejal founded both a nonprofit (Girls Helping Girls) and a social enterprise (girltank) dedicated to socially and economically empowering young women globally to fulfill their potential and design sustainable social change. Sejal also works to foster locally-grown, youth-led innovation through S2 Capital, a social venture fund she cofounded that invests equity and debt in entrepreneurs under the age of 30 in low-resource countries. She has served as a USA Ambassador to Ashoka and as an advisor on youth development and women and girls to multiple organizations, from the World Bank to UNICEF to State Farm Insurance. Sejal also does research on global health delivery systems and quality improvement, and worked in Egypt to design an evidence-based hospital strengthening initiative that has built the capacity of public hospitals to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease. She has spoken at TED and at TEDx, among other venues, and has been named a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, one of Newsweek’s “150 Women Who Shake the World,” one of CNN’s Young People Who Rock, and one of Glamour’s Amazing Young Women of the Year for her work.
